Over time, we have compiled a list of Frequently Asked Questions related to MediaView. We thought this would be a good time to share a few of these with all of you just in case these issues have come up in your experience!

Is it a real click or not?

When you see a high number of clicks on one of your email send reports, you might wonder if the clicks came from real people or bots. The answer: an actual person might not be actually doing the clicking, but they could be using a product that clicks for them. Programs such as Barracuda, Proofpoint, and Mimecast automatically click every link in the message to determine where the link is going for the purpose of making sure that the ultimate destination is safe.

What we are doing about these false clicks: We have accumulated a large list of IP addresses that correlate back to these vendors, and we add more every day. However, it becomes a never ending game of cat-and-mouse as these vendors tend to use enormous lists of ever changing IP addresses to complete their scans.

Our recommendation: Don’t necessarily remove anybody that clicks everything as they may, in fact be real people - but it’s their software doing the clicking. If you’d like to figure out who your extra-active people are (clicking every link) vs. the people who are using one of the products, we can help you with that.

Why are my images showing up as broken in MediaView?

MediaView only shows images if they are hosted on a secure server - that is, https:// rather than http://. If your company website doesn’t have https://, you can upload files to Computer Fulfillment and we will host them for you on our https://.

Check to make sure that you aren’t using any URL shorteners (such as bit.ly). Messages that contain URL shorteners in links are often perceived by browsers as phishing emails. If you do use bit.ly, make sure the underlying link uses https:// rather than http://.

When it comes to the MediaView system, those of us who develop, maintain and explain how to use it are always interested in what our users think so if you have any suggestions for additional questions that might need to be added to our FAQ list that would be of assistance to you or your fellow MediaView users please feel free to let us know!
